Career and Administrative Experience
My first formal administrative employment that started my career was in 1999 with my initial position being that of an administrative Assistant in the Examinations Division of Makerere University. I was specifically in the transcripts section of that Division. This position gave me an opportunity to practice my administrative capabilities at that level. I was able to interact with many people of all works of life who sought their academic papers. As a young energetic person, my hard work and efficiency was soon to be noticed by the clients (students who sought their papers), by my colleagues and by my bosses. I became a friend to many and I did all tasks assigned to me with distinction.
My academic career started as an Assistant lecturer in the department of CEEMs at Makerere University. I later joined Uganda management institute as a consultant (as they were called but it was indeed the position of a lecturer). I immediately rose in ranks to be head of higher Degrees. I introduced a number of postgraduate programmes at UMI. The current PhD in Management and Administration was introduced by myself. I also introduced the Masters in Public Administration (which has recently been internationally accredited), the Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in institutional governance and Leadership and Masters in Public Procurement among others.
At Uganda Management Institute, I was able to quickly turn around research and graduate supervision which saw impressive completion rates and the Masters in Management studies which had seen student enrolment reduces now became the major source of income to the institute. Several students who had abandoned their course returned to complete the research component and new applicants became too many until the institute had to make several intakes and streams. I effectively supervised a number of graduate students and emphasised completion rate and quality. It is here that I later started my rigorous academic career in publications. I travelled extensively and attended several international conferences. I later was appointed to be the acting Director of Programmes, a position that I diligently discharged for 7 months and I received a letter of commendation from the Governing council. I had solved the problem of delayed examinations. The holder of the position was the Ag Director General and they recruited a new DG because the acting did not have a PhD at the time which was a requirement.
In 2013, I moved to Uganda Technology and Management University. I became the founding Dean for the School of Business and Management. I initiated a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The school became the leading generator of university fees. In 2015, I was appointed as a Vice Chancellor of the University; a position I occupied till August 2019 when I formally took leave of the services of the University.
In September 2019, I was appointed as a Professor of Governance. I also remain a visiting professor and research fellow for the School of Management, Governance and Public Policy at the University of Johannesburg. I have been nominated as an Extra Ordinary Professor at the NWS business School and await a formal letter of appointment.
